Winter in Calgary can be cold and unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t enjoy the many amenities that West Calgary has to offer. Even the coldest months (that thankfully have an occasional chinook), Calgary is known for its winter activities and events.
Although the winter days in Calgary are short, you can take full advantage of the ample amount of sunshine Calgary has during the day and even some evening activities under the illumination of light.
Recreational Activities at the Calgary Olympic Park
One of the best places to spend time outdoors in West Calgary is Calgary Olympic Park. This park is used by all of Canada for high-performance winter athletics training as well as recreational fun by your average Calgarian. Luckily this outdoor playground is just minutes away from The Rise West Grove Estates.
The activities in Calgary Olympic Park are very outdoor-centered. They have family-friendly skating, skiing, and snowboarding lessons. They even have bobsled and luge rides. There is no shortage of the amount of fun you can have here if you love winter sports. Some people are satisfied with taking a slow romantic winter walk, while others want to get the rush by a skiing, snowboarding or tubing down the hill. Take advantage of the opportunity to experience the rush Olympic athletes feel by going luging or riding in a bobsled. When you need a break from the thrill of the hill, stop by the inspiring sports hall of fame located right at COP.
Other Winter Activities
If sports aren’t your thing, don’t get discouraged. There is a lot of fun to be had beyond simple walks and adventures at Canada Olympic Park. There are many other activities to occupy your time during the winter months. The entertainment options are only moments away when you live in West Calgary – it’s a quick 15 minutes to watch the Calgary Flames, Hitmen or Roughnecks. Or just curl up in front of your new fireplace and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with a good book. Summer will be here before you know it!
